When you walk into any of The Rec Dispensary's locations in Denver, Hickory, or Statesville, North Carolina, you’re stepping into a space shaped by someone who cares deeply about quality, service, and community. That someone is Will, the manager whose dedication touches every part of the operation—from inventory management to electrical maintenance. A lifelong North Carolina resident and Veteran, Will brings a unique blend of experience, passion, and personality to his role.
One of Will’s most noticeable features is his impressive beard, which has become something of a local legend. His beard is a conversation starter and a symbol of his authenticity. Customers often recognize him by it, which helps build a friendly and approachable atmosphere in the stores.

Favorite part of being part of the Rec’d team:
Definitely the people. Everyone brings their own personality, and it creates a really fun environment. There’s a lot of teamwork, a lot of laughs, and everybody genuinely wants to see the business grow.
How long in North Carolina?
Luckily, most of my life. Absolutely long enough to know there’s always another hidden spot to explore!
What’s a “hidden gem” you think most people miss?
Little Mountain Park in Sherrills Ford. It’s peaceful, scenic, and one of the best places to clear your head without driving far.
What is your favorite 'spot' in town to relax or spend a day off?
You can’t really beat grabbing food at Neighbors 828 and then heading out to Mountain Creek Park for a round of pickleball.
What surprises you the most about living in North Carolina?
How quickly it’s growing while still keeping that local hometown feel in so many areas.
What I wish more people knew about North Carolina?
There’s something here for everyone from the beaches to the mountains. Whether you’re into the outdoors, lake life, good food, small towns, or just finding places to slow down and enjoy life a little more, North Carolina has a way of making people feel at home.
Where is the best place to watch a sunset/sunrise, or take a great photo?
Stumpy Creek around sunset is always a solid choice, especially near the water.
If you had 36 hours to show someone the best of this town, what would you do?
We’d start with coffee and breakfast, then head to Stumpy Creek Park for some disc golf and time outdoors. We’d stop by Time Tunnel Comics, grab food at Eddie’s on Lake Norman, and end the night watching the sunset by the water. It’s the perfect mix of local spots, good food, and laid-back North Carolina vibes.
